For direct and indirect pulp capping, its formula contains 40% calcium hydroxide in a creamy, aqueous ethylcellulose preparation. Multi-Cal is premixed, air-dries without hardening, and is easily removed from canals with a file and irrigation. Radiopaque, bactericidal, pH > 12.
